MISSIONARY ROLES

Barnstormer

Age: 14-15 years old (13 is ok as long as they have graduated 8th grade)

Barnstormers work hard to help make camp happen. Duties include waiting tables at meal times, washing dishes, helping keep the kitchen clean, and cleaning toilets and bathrooms around camp. We have college staff that help lead them in these tasks as well as lead Bible studies and fun activities. Each Barnstormer is assigned to a cabin, where they will get to build relationships with campers and participate in daily activities with them. The best Barnstormers are MATURE, 14-or 15-year-olds with a very strong work ethic.

Counselor

Age: 16-29 years old

These incredible individuals are placed with a camper to unconditionally love and accept their camper, care for all of their camper’s needs and assist their camper in having the most awesome week of summer camp ever. To be an effective counselor, you must be willing to put aside your own personal desires and needs during your entire week of service. You must be willing to share God’s word in any circumstance. The counselors live in the cabins with their campers and are assigned the duty of overseeing and teaching their campers. Some counselors work with children with special needs, while others work with sibling campers. The campers and counselors experience all of the activities at camp together. This means that counselors must be willing and able to participate fully in all activities. This is a huge responsibility, a 23-hour commitment daily. We make every effort to allow for one hour of personal time off every day. THE COUNSELOR MUST BE MATURE AND WILLING TO WORK WITH SIBLINGS OR CAMPERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. You will not know your assignment until you arrive, but please come willing to minister wherever God needs you!

Cabin Parent

Each week, we need special adults who are assigned to work with a particular cabin for the week. This role requires you to be dedicated 100% to serving in whatever capacity you may be needed. Your job may consist of providing relief to the cabin counselors or summer staff, doing laundry, or assisting with camper needs such as bathing, changing, dressing, or feeding. You will also be serving one meal a day in the kitchen.

Ministry Partner

As our campers learn and grow in Christ, they often ask us for the opportunity to give back to our camp ministry through serving. The Ministry Partner (MP) program is designed to make this possible. MP's attend a regular week of camp as a camper. They return another week of camp as a missionary. In this role, they assist in preparing for the nightly parties, help with office tasks, maintenance work, gardening, mail sorting and delivery, kitchen work or delivering water and Freeze (Popsicles) to the other campers and missionaries.  Not everyone qualifies for our MP program and openings are limited. Being an MP is a commitment that takes hard work, but it is also very rewarding.

Medical Team Nurse

Nurses and physicians must serve a full term and stay on sight at all times during the week. Your children that are camp age are allowed to enroll as a camper in the sibling program if they do not have a disability. If you have a child with a disability, they will enroll as a camper. All children that attend while their parent is a nurse must be enrolled as campers or missionaries. Children do not live with the nurses. The nurses live in the medical center and share bedrooms with other nurses. You must be licensed in the state of the camp you will be serving or live in a compact state (reciprocal licensing with your state and that state) if you are a nurse.

Medical Team Physician

All physicians are covered under Missouri law to serve at our Missouri locations for 14 days or less in a summer camp setting that will allow you to be a part of the team, utilizing your license from the state where you practice. Each physician usually works for one week and brings their family along for the trip. The physicians are on duty a limited amount of time and are encouraged to have family time and enjoy camp along with the campers when off-duty. Because we have two physicians each week, the time you spend actually working is limited and there is plenty of time to rest and relax with family.

Party People

The Party People program at Camp Barnabas offers you and your team an opportunity to experience the Joy, Enthusiasm, Fun and Fellowship (JEFF- it's a camp thing) of our campers by spending a few hours with us volunteering at our evening parties.  Party People teams arrive around 6 pm and, after a tour of camp, have dinner with our campers.  Following dinner, your group will help with set-up for the evening party which can be things like a sports game, carnival, game show, dance or pool party.  During the party, you will be assigned a work-station and will get to directly serve our campers, missionaries, and staff.  After the party, you are welcome to stay for our evening session we call "Wrap-Up".  We would love for you to bring your group and serve – we promise it will impact you!  For more information or to schedule a Party People date, please contact us at info@campbarnabas.org or call our main office 417.476.2565.
